Therapy

We currently have one therapist at our school !!! Welcome Adrie de Bruyn (physiotherapist).

Therapy intervention at Harding Special School aims to increase functional independence, and to equip learners with the necessary life skills to rise above their impairments and actively participate in their communities.

These are a few of the activities through which therapy needs are addressed:

A big frustration in rural areas is that children are first exposed to therapy on admission to school, which can be as old as 10 years. Therapy is more effective when started early. The therapy department has begun an early intervention clinic as part of the school’s community outreach (both from school and to our Ikwezi programme).

At present there is one therapist at our school,  but we look forward to augmenting the therapy service offered when the following posts are filled:

  • 1 Physiotherapist (post level 1)
  • 1 Speech & Hearing Therapist (post level 1)
  • 2 Occupational Therapist (post level 1, post level 2)
